Erwin Rommel was in charge of the Africa corps. He was known as the Desert Fox.

Whoever wrote this originally, can't spell.

It is actually spelled Afrika Korps. It is a German word. I am guessing that is how it was originally spelled also.

General Erwin Rommel served German forces through both World War I and World War II. In World War II, his leadership of German and Italian forces in the North African campaign earned him the nickname 'Desert Fox'. He was considered to be an expert in desert warfare. However, he treated prisoners humanely and was respected by both Axis and Allied commanders.

Erwin Rommel played two major roles in World War 2. He fought in two of WWII's most signifcant battles, El Alamein and D-Day. The 'Desert Fox' was arguably one of the best generals in WW2. As a result of the Stauffenburg plot he was forced to commit suicide.

Yes he did. Among other things, he was the top German commander of the Afrika Corps in North Africa in the early 1940s and responsible for German defenses along the "Atlantic Wall" prior to and during the Allied invasion of Normandy in 1944.

After WW1 Rommel was captain of a regiment in Germany between 1920 and 1929.

Between then and WW2 he worked as a military instructor for infantry.

For the duration of WW2, he was a Generalfeldmarschall, or Field Marshal, in places like North Africa, and France (he also served as a field marshal on D-Day).
