It would be very close to impossible to answer that question, as the "first land battle" would've occurred in or about 1955 and possibly even earlier (1954) or later (1956), as US forces were present in RVN during those time frames. Fighting was occurring during those dates between the US and the forces of communism in South Vietnam.
