The last major battle of the war was fought at Yorktown, Virginia. An American and French force surrounded the main British field army and forced it to surrender in October 1781, after a few weeks' siege.

Interestingly, the war continued for a few years after Yorktown, mostly overseas. The last notable battle associated with the war was actually the siege of Mangalore, India, which ended in 1784. The siege was another defeat for the British, this time at the hands of an army from the Indian country of Mysore.
