a hydroelectric plant is a plant that generates electricity off of water. The first hydroelectric plant for commercial use was constructed in Appleton, Wisconsin. It provided electricity for lighting in the plant's owner's home, the plant itself and a nearby building. It became operational on September 30th, 1882. The plant was named the "Vulcan Street Plant".
