The Miami Indians are people who lived long ago in the forests which are now houses and buildings. They were driven out of Indiana by the white men which did not like the Indians because they thought they were taking over the land. So, today we do no longer have Indians in this state.

The tribe today known as the Miami people called themselves Myaamiaki, meaning "downstream people" or Mihtohseeniaki, meaning "the people". They originally occupied lands in the areas that became Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois.
