The answer to your question is.... NEITHER! They are both very much tied in quality of models they produce, and also indeed their service. Thus, it is not what brand you wish to bless with your custom that you need to focus on, but what model you wish to purchase, and what requirements you need. In my opinion, Nikon has the upper hand in style, so I generally buy from them.
However, as I said, look at individual models from both companies, and see which ones fit your needs. I recommend the 'which' website (if you don't already have a subscription I really do recommend it).
