Several United States Presidents actually played football. John Kennedy played for Harvard, Richard Nixon played for Whittier College, Gerald Ford was the MVP for the University of Michigan, Ronald Reagan played for Eureka College, and Dwight Eisenhower played for the West Point military academy.
It is controversially alleged that Dwight D. Eisenhower played semi-pro baseball before attending West Point. The reason there is controversy is that he played on the football team at West Point, and collegiate athletes of the time were prohibited from receiving payment for anything related to athletics, including coaching. Although Eisenhower graduated West Point before the formal implementation of the strict honor code, the spirit of it already existed, and it is thought it might have been a code violation for Eisenhower to play amateur football at West Point after having been paid to play baseball.
No, but he was Superintendent of West Point
no
Only three presidents attended either West Point or the Naval Academy. U.S. Grant, D. D. Eisenhower (both went to West Point) & Jimmy Carter (U. S. Naval Academy). Football wasn't around when Grant went to West Point. Eisenhower did play football at West Point in the linbackers position (he once assisted on a tackle of Jim Thorpe). I could find no referance of Jimmy Carter playing football at the Academy. So a good guess would be D. D. (Ike) Eisenhower.
The first Army-Navy football game was played on November 29, 1890.
John Eisenhower, son of President Dwight Eisenhower, graduated from West Point in 1944.
Two West Point graduates reached the rank of General Officer and later became the President of the US: Grant and Eisenhower. Jefferson Davis, the President of the CSA was also a West Point graduate as was President Samoza of Nicaragua, President Ramos of the Philippines and President Figueres of Costa Rica.
