Asked in Soviet Union (USSR)
Which Soviet leader brought the Soviet Union out of communism?
Mikhail Gorbachev The Soviet Union was never communist, really. Lenin started the revolution when conditions were not met, and the economic state or Russia was 100 years behind the rest of Europe, hardly what one would consider "industrialized". Lenin attempted to create some kind of socialism after the Civil War, but Stalin created a dictatorship and ended any hope of reaching anything like what Lenin had intended. True socialism/communism is democratic by nature, and therefore, all but diehard Stalinists can agree that the CCCP(USSR) was not communist at any point.
