The United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization, otherwise known as UNESCO, is looking after the world's heritage sites since the foundation of the United Nations in 1945. However, the ownership of the site, and therefore responsibility for infrastructure, maintenance and access, remains with the nation where the site is located.

World Heritage sites are all over the world and are historically important places that need to be protected. I was at one in Russia and found it very interesting.
it is important because it attracts tourists and these landmarks are cherished by everyone around the world. it is also protected by UNESCO because they have found new animals or plants, there are endangered spices in that area or have a significant importance in history.
In 1984, the statue was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In its "Statement of Significance", the world organization found that the statue was a "masterpiece of the human spirit" which "endures as a highly potent symbol - inspiring contemplation, debate and protest - of ideals such as liberty, peace, human rights, abolition of slavery, democracy and opportunity."

Auschwitz-Birkenau was inscribed onto the World Heritage Site list in 1979. It is inscribed under criteria vi, which states that the site is directly associated with events, living traditions, ideas or beliefs that have outstanding universal value. Most sites use this criteria in a positive way, but this is not one of them. This site stands as irrefutable evidence to one of the greatest crimes ever perpetrated against humanity. It is a symbol of the countless deaths caused by the evil Nazi regime. It is also a monument to the survivors who overcame incredible struggles and found the composure to survive the inhumane activities of the Nazi regime.
Lord Howe Island is important due to its unique biodiversity, with many plant and animal species found nowhere else on Earth. It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized for its remarkable natural features and ecological significance. The island also serves as a critical breeding site for seabirds and turtles.
The Cradle of Humankind (as a part of the Fossil Hominid Sites of South Africa) is a World Heritage site under criteria iii and vi. Found at the site were specimens dating back 3.5 million years and threw light on the origins and evolution of mankind. These sites are also situated in areas that allowed for the conservation of these fossils and the site is a vast reserve of scientific data universal scope and incredible potential. These sites conclusively proved that africa is the cradle of humankind.
