Using the benchmark established by Business Traveller Magazine and having the results authenticated by an independent auditing company, the award for 'Best Airline 2011' was announced on September 26th at the Royal Garden Hotel in London. Business Traveller Magazine is considered the premier magazine and website for Business Travellers around the world.

British Airways reclaimed the title of Best Airline World-Wide from Singapore Airlines. It also won Best Short-Haul airline and Best Frequent Flier Programme.

Singapore Airlines, which has historically been a leader at these awards, still remained strong, as it was awarded the Best Business Class, Best Economy Class, Best Long-Haul Airline, Best Asian Airline and Best Cabin Staff.

Emirates won Best First Class. And Virgin won the Best Premium Economy Award. Virgin also was awarded for the Best Airport Lounge for its unique Clubhouse at Heathrow Terminal Three.

There are other magazines throughout the world catering to different markets, who hold similar award schemes. Some of them have clearly become extensions of a marketing strategy and relationship between the owners of the magazine and the participating airlines. Consequently, there are other airlines who tout themselves as the 'Best' in a wide range of qualifiers. Some of the awards, featured by the magazines, become downright silly, such as the award an airline received for having the Best Service in the World among airlines who flew between one specific city and another. In many instances, there was only the one airline. But it allowed the magazine to 'hit' the airline for advertising so it could be featured in the magazine.

Consequently, industry leaders have looked towards Business Traveller as the leader due to the veracity of its awards and verification schemes.
