Most species of mammal have five digits on their hands/paws/feet. However, there are only a handful of mammals that hands or paws with elongated "fingers"; all members of the Primate family have human-like hands, complete with long, flexible fingers and an opposable thumb.

The family Phalangeridae (nocturnal marsupials such as possums) also have five fingers and both the first and second digits of the forefeet are opposable, while the first toe on the hind feet are opposable for gripping branches. Koalas are similar; they also have five fingers with the first two opposable for exactly the same reason as the Phalangeridae family.

Raccoons, while don't have any thumbs or thumb-like digits, have very delicate and sensitive human-like paws. They can detect the difference between a rock and a clam from simply feeling the bottom of a stream - and amazingly they lose no sensation even when "fishing" for hours at a time.

How many fingers does the spider monkey have?

Chimpanzees, like *all* primates have five fingers or four fingers and a thumb depending how you look at it. Their hands are very much like the hands of a human. See Related Links for a picture showing the hands of various primates including that of the chimpanzee.Actually, a chimp, like other primates (other than the human) has five fingers, without an opposing thumb. This is why a chimp cannot grasp certain things that a human can, which has the opposing thumb. A chimp does not have a thumb, per se.

How many fingers has a man?

Humans have four fingers and one thumb. You can either say four fingers or five fingers, depending on whether you count the thumb. You could also say a human has five digits, which is another way of saying fingers/toes/thumbs. Some humans have more than that, which is a condition called polydactyly. Having six fingers on one or both hands is the most common form of polydactyly.
