Is the question: what countries does the US require a visa from?

If so, the answer is that the US requires a visa from every country on Earth EXCEPT those member countries that are part of the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). However, even in these countries, those people with criminal records will STILL be required to obtain a visa.

A Schengen visa is a visa that is applicable to some European countries... there are around 25 countries who are linked to the Schengen area... some of them are France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden etc. If you decide to visit Spain or Italy then you can apply for a Schengen visa. However if you are visiting UK you will need to apply for a UK visa... Good Luck !

It is more the other way around:

"Which nationalities can enter the Schengen Area without a Schengen visa?"

If you need a Schengen visa, then you need it for all of them. If you don't need one, then you don't need it for any.

Citizens of all EU and Schengen countries can enter and leave the Schengen area at any time with no restriction.

Citizens of some other countries, such as the USA, do not need a vias, but are only allowed in for 90 days.

Obviously countries which are not part of the Schengen Area have their own visa rules. A Schengen visa is only valid for the Schengen countries.

The full list of the 26 current (as of 2012) members of the Schengen area is:

Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

Bulgaria and Romania are due to join Schengen in 2013.

Most (if not all) countries require a visa for foreign visitors. Most of them have exceptions for citizens of certain countries.
