While many countries have structure that somewhat resembles Polyarchy, there are currently no true Polyarchist nations anywhere on earth. The closest thing to a polyarchy currently in existence is the United Nations, where a central organization (the UN) provides security and mediation for the nations under it. In theory, this meats the requirements of a Polyarchy. However, the existence of governments such as the USA and China; each of which is more powerful than the UN on it's own; tend to neutralize the effectiveness of the UN. This is because they can forcibly enact laws and regulations that no one else agrees with, making the UN little more than an extension of a minority of the governments that it is composed of. Thus, the UN fails to protect the intrests of most of the nations who are under it, and is doomed to failure just as the League of Nations was.
