I don't believe foods should be avoided unless they are toxic to your system; forbidding food makes it more tempting.

I say "minimize" problematic foods; it's better to say, have a small slice of cake than to go weeks without it, develop an uncontrollable craving and then binge on it. I see this happen way too much in people trying to lose weight.

I don't know about 8 foods, but if you want to reduce fat and cholesterol, minimize any animal based foods, particularly meat and dairy products which are probably the main sources of fat and cholesterol.

Also drastically reduce partially hydrogenated fats; shown to be worse than saturated fats in clogging arteries. I would also add hydrogenated fats in general to the "minimize use" category.

Vegetable fats--olive, peanut, canola, flaxseed, sunflower, safflower, are good for your health and brain and can help your body reduce "bad" cholesterol. They are obviously not low fat, but "good fats" and "bad fats" should be distinguished in regards to cholesterol.

While on a low cholesterol diet, you should avoid foods that contain saturated fats as well as partially hydrogenated vegetable oils and trans fats. Many fried and processed foods contain these oils and fats. Margarine contains these oils. Avoid whole fat dairy products. Avoid foods containing white flour and try to eat whole grains.

In general any product that is hing in saturated fat, oil, or trans fat are not allowed. The main group that has these fats and oils in them are nuts and meat. However, eating very lean meat like chicken is allowed.
