The AMD Sempron is AMD's brand for low-cost processors. These are primarily desktop processors that are meant for users on a budget who do not have extensive computing needs (i.e. web, e-mail, word processing, etc.).
The AMD Turion is AMD's mobile-grade processor specifically meant for laptops. These processors draw less power and generate less heat than desktop processors, which is why they are desirable for laptop environments.
The AMD Turion is a much better CPU for use in laptops as the improved power efficiency means longer battery life, and the Turion (not being a low-cost processor) is also likely to be a faster performing processor over the Sempron.

∙ 15y agoAMD is a company. Pentium is a brand name of microprocessors. Trying to compare the two is like trying to compare the Wii to the entire company of Microsoft. It simply makes no sense to try to do that. How do you decide if a product is better than an entire company?

∙ 12y agothats a tough question, it depends on what pentuim you have, a pentuim 4 with ht( hyper threading enabled) might give you around 2.8 ghz while a dual core a4 might give you more probs up to 3.5 ghz depending on what the dual cores each have. really get a new intel i3/i5/i7/i7 extreme edition, these produce quite a lot of power, and with new turbo boost tech. 2.0 it can deliver more! i7 extreme is for hardcore gamers mind you and the latest i7 provides up to 4.2ghz with turbo boost tech 2.0!

Both processors are very reliable but the main difference is with performance. I currently have 2 computers with Intel Pentium and 2 with AMD. The Intel Pentium are more geared to the buisness side of the computer world and the AMD are much better for gaming applications, even though they do a fine job on the buisness side as well. It really comes down to one's preference and the type of applications the computer will be running.
