It depends on where you are. If you are in most of the eastern states of the United States, Canada is north of the US, so Toronto is also to the north. But if you are in the eastern provinces of Canada, the reverse applies: the US is to the south of Canada.

Toronto is farther north than Boston. Toronto is at the same latitude as Portland, Maine

Toronto at latitude of 43.65 N is north of Boston at latitude 42.35 N. In between those two cities in both latitude and longitude are Syracuse, Buffalo, and Niagara falls.
