Making rules and laws based on religious beliefs is not the role of politics. Religion, in this country, has complete freedom to practice their theological beliefs. They do not, however, have the right to intrude into the lives of others who has as much right to freedom from religion. Both are protected by the 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights. What seems to be a flaw in this system is that people (especially religious people) tend to elect people into office that are prone to make decisions based on their "church", instead of laws that protect the citizenry at large (which is the wording of our Constitution). Example of fraud is the Tea Party, who claims to be Constitutional, while bending everything that document says, to protect the rich from their responsibilites to support this nation through taxation. That also is not the role of government.
