The Torah is the first of the three parts of the Hebrew Bible. According to tradition, it is the oldest part of the Bible. The Torah was written by Moses (Deuteronomy 31:24) before his death in 1272 BCE. The next book of the Bible to be written, Joshua, was written in 1244 BCE.

The Christian Old Testament was based on the Tanach but was modified to support the teachings of Christianity.
