For your convienence here is a chart giving the different metric prefixes (or more properly prefixe): Fractions; deci- 1/10 centi- 1/100 milli- 1/1,000 micro- 1/1,000,000 nano- 1/1,000,000,000 Angstrom 1/10,000,000,000 pico- 1/1,000,000,000,000 femto- 1/1,000,000,000,000,000 atto- 1/1,000,000,000,000,000,000 zepto- 1/1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 yocto- 1/1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 (or one octillionth) Multiples; deca- 10 hecto - 100 kilo- 1,000 mega - 1,000,000 giga- 1,000,000,000 tera- 1,000,000,000,000 peta- 1,000,000,000,000,000 exa- 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 zetta- 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 yotta- 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 I do feel that it is important to note that many other things are smaller than a centigram. And as a long time opponent of the metric system I feel compelled to point out that 1/16th of a centimeter is smaller than a centimeter.

A millimeter is less than a centimeter

There are many units that are smaller than a centimeter. On the common metric scale (kilo-mili) the smallest unit is a millimeter. But there are more units that are even more diminutive. These units are used to measure extremely small objects such as cells, atoms, and wavelengths.

Smaller units: milli- 10-3

micro- 10-6

nano- 10-9

pico- 10-12

femto- 10-15

atto- 10-18

zepto- 10-21

yocto- 10-24
