Heroin
Natural Opiates, and i guess semi-synthetic opiates would also fall under that catagory.
Heroin does not grow. It is a chemical derived from morphine, which itself is derived from opium. Opium is derived from poppy flowers and the poppies grow in mountainous regions on very poor dry soils in places like Afghanistan,Pakistan and China. The poppies survive drought when other food crops fail. The poppy seed heads are cut with a knife and the white sap oozes out and dries to a brown hard resin. This is hand picked and refined as above.
You can grow opium poppies in Idaho, but they make terrible cut flowers. Some varieties, like Papaver somniferum var. paeoniflorum "Red Bombast" make a better cut flower than most, but traditionally you enjoy your poppies IN the garden, not the vase where they sadly hang there heads down and droop within minutes. poppyemporium.com
Wait until the petals fall from the seed pod, leaving a ball shape pod. Scratch the surface of the pod with a pin, very lightly (if you scratch too deep, it will ruin the opium) or about 1/12 inch. I thick, white sap will come out. That is opium. Let the wounds seep for a few hours. Come back and the opium should have dried, then scrape it off of the pod. This is crude opium
