There were rising tensions between the U.S. and Japan mostly because the U.S. put economic sanctions(boycotted) on japan. This meant that we would not trade with japan. This was very bad for japan because japan has few to none Natural Resources. What mad this even worse was japan was in a war and needed food for troops, oil/gas for tanks, planes, trucks, ect., metal for tanks, planes, trucks, ect, We put economic sanctions on japan because they were invading china(our ally) and other countries. So then Japan bombed pearl harbor, then we won the war.

The US imposed economic sanctions to Japan, halting the transport of oil and steel to Japan, all important products for the Japanese war effort. The Japanese decided that they could no longer rely on the US for raw materials and needed to strike a death blow, in which they did not succeed in doing; all aircraft carriers were at sea at the moment.
