There have been so many leaders in the world who have also been noted poets. Let us take the example of Africa which is also known as the Dark Continent where from no one generally will expect the emergence of great leaders who were poets also. In fact, at one time, many people doubted if the Africans have a literature, for that matter. The African Languages have a very rich literature. Many of their national leaders and Presidents such as Dr. Augustino Netto, Samora Maschel, Joseena Maschel and Robert Mugabe were famous poets and authors also. The Africans have excellent tastes in exactly imitating the various physical and psychic actions of men, birds and beasts in their exotic dances and music, the due progression of which, along with assimilation of the essences of various cultures coming along that great continental cultural highway culminated in their rich literature. Today a great number of English books are written from Africa. Ethnic problems have somewhat given way to a literary awakening there. Rabindranath Tagore, who was one of the greatest political leaders and educationalists of India was the greatest poet of India also. Actually, many are still in doubt as to whether he is to be considered as a political figure-head or a poet. We have the example of many of the Silver Poets of the Sixteenth Century including Sir. Walter Raleigh who were beheaded for their extreme political convictions. Since the time of the ancient Greece to the time of the modern England, France, Germany and Italy, many poets have taken it into their heads that leading people politically is their mission and job.
