His smartness and his lack of skill
Harald III. hardhradi (1015-1066) served as of 1033 in the Imperial body guard of Byzance "for the sake of glory" as in northern Europe no rewarding playground was available, his father Magnus I. ruled Norway since 1035 and seemed to be in good health. Well-known in his days for his bravery he returned to Norway to succeed to his father on the throne in 1047. He tried to withdraw Norway from the Hamburg-Bremen bishopric as Christianisation territory. In 1066 he and his fellow Tostig Godwinson, the brother of King Harold, set out to conquer the Danelag territory where the Danes had their dwellings in England where he fell in the Battle of Stamford Bridge.
He liked glory, adventure and brave deeds.
