Challenger was destroyed in a launch accident on January 28, 1986.
Columbia was destroyed during reentry on February 1, 2003.
The surviving four shuttles are Enterprise (flight tests), Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour (built to replace Challenger).
Columbia [Sadly Destroyed during re-entry] Challenger [Destroyed at Launch] Discovery, Atlantis, and Endeavour are retired.Buran belongs to Russia.[Destroyed in hangar collaspe at Banikour Cosmodrome]Bold shuttles are nasa
5 NASA Shuttles have been into space. Of those 5 shuttles, 2 were unfortunately destroyed. There has been a total of 135 Space missions using the space shuttle between the years 1980 and 2011 :)
The Space Shuttles are old, expensive, and outdated. Two of the five US space shuttles were destroyed in accidents that killed all on board, which raised concerns about the safety of the spacecraft as well.
Discovery, Atlantis and Endeavor have visited the ISS. Challenger (which was destroyed before the beginning of ISS construction) and Enterprise (which was a flight test vehicle and not space-worthy) have visited the International Space Station. Columbia was slated to visit the ISS on STS-118 but was destroyed on reentry and this mission was flown by Endeavour instead.

There are 3 now, Discovery, Endeavor, and Atlantis. Challenger was destroyed in 1986 and Columbia was destroyed in 2003.

Space Shuttle Challenger exploded just a few seconds into a flight in 1986. Space Shuttle Columbia exploded during its reentry in 2003.
Space shuttles are placed in a hangar at Kennedy Space Center when not on a mission or on pre- or post flight processing. The very tall Vehicle Assembly Building is where they are prepared for flight and where the External Fuel Tank and Solid Rocket Boosters are joined to the orbiter. Post flight checks and repairs are also carried out here.
The space shuttle has never landed in the ocean. The Apollo capsule used to land in the ocean. The last Apollo flight was in 1972. The first space shuttle flight was in 1981.
