The Vice President, Congress and advisers all help the President fulfill his duties. There are times when Congress and the President may appear to be working against each other, but eventually they will work it out.
As Commander-In-Chief of the US Armed Forces, the President is helped in making military decisions by the Secretary of Defense, the Secretaries of each of the armed forces, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the National Security Advisor and the National Security Council.
The cabinet heads the President has chosen. help him carry out his duties and give him advice. He chooses 15 people to represent major departments. Plus, the Vice-President gives him advice.

The main purpose of the Executive Office of the President is to help the President carry out his or her duties as chief executive.
The Secratary of Defense helps the president carry out his commander-in-chief duties. Right now the Sec. of Defense is Robert M. Gates, but President Obama will appoint a new one.
