Joseph Stalin of Soviet Russia agreed to let Hitler take western Poland as part of the Nazi-Soviet nonaggression pact. The pact was based on no mutual trust but Stalin and Hitler were too preoccupied with world dominance to bother with overpowering the other, thus Poland was eventually conquered by force of fifty-six German divisions on the ground and sixteen hundred Luftwaffe aircraft.
