Us federal elections are always held on the first Tuesday in November, unless the first of November is a Tuesday, in which case the second Tuesday is the election day. Federal elections are held every other year , in even-numbered years.to elect Congressmen and 1/3 of the Senate. Every four years a president is elected.

This year which is an odd-numbered year, state elections will be held on November 8 but only because November 1 was a Tuesday in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Jersey and Virginia and some special elections to fill vacant seats in Congress will also be held.
