That number is inaccurate and while it was a bloody pair of battles for no solid or obvious reason (UN forces withdrew to the permanent battle lines and a ceasefire was declared three weeks later) either for strategic or tactical advantage. ROK losses were 15 killed and 120 wounded and US losses were 243 killed and about 900 wounded, the vast majority of the UN troops were unscathed. Pork Chop Hill is more Hollywood than military history although Chinese casualties exceeded five thousand and two Medals of Honor (Posthumous) were awarded.

My Grandpa is one of them. Robert Eugene Chambliss. He is now deceased but survived Pork Chop Hill. That is one survivor anyways! Good luck with the rest. Oh yeah..my Grandpa is in a book called Pork Chop Hill and in that book should be some of the survivors, if not all of them. my da was also one of them he was in the medical corps. his name was PFC. Richard Nerbonne he passed away on April 15th of last year he was awarded the purple heart and two bronze stars in that battle !
