The Three Little Pigs (1989) aka The Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf, written and illustrated by James Marshall, was published by Grosset & Dunlap and in 2000 by the Penguin Young Readers Group.
The main characters in the story "The Three Little Pigs" are the three pigs: the first pig who builds a house of straw, the second pig who builds a house of sticks, and the third pig who builds a house of bricks. There is also the wolf who tries to blow down their houses.
The protagonists are three anthropomorphic pigs, able to talk and use tools, each of which builds his own house. The antagonist is the Big Bad Wolf, also anthropomorphic and with a unnaturally strong set of lungs.
The cautionary tale has each of the three pigs building a house from a different material, with the more durable houses taking the most effort to build. The wolf wishes to eat the pigs, and is able to "huff and puff" and expel air with such force that he "blows the houses down" that are made of straw (first pig) and sticks (second pig). However, the third pig has expended the effort to build a brick house, which can withstand the powerful exhalations of the wolf. The only weak point is the open chimney - but when the wolf tries to use it to enter, he falls into a cooking pot in the fireplace.
In some versions of the story, the first two pigs are eaten by the wolf when their structures fail catastrophically. In others, they both flee to the safety of the third pig's house. In some versions of the story, the wolf survives his scalding and never threatens the pigs again.
The basic moral of the tale is to avoid half-hearted enterprises -- do something well, even if it requires greater effort. Also, the lesson that effort expended today can have great value tomorrow.

The main characters in the "Three Little Pigs" story are the three pigs who build houses of straw, sticks, and bricks. The goal of the pigs is to build a strong enough house to protect themselves from the Big Bad Wolf, who tries to blow down their houses.
The climax of "The Three Little Pigs" is when the Big Bad Wolf blows down the houses made of straw and sticks, but fails to destroy the brick house. This marks the point of highest tension and conflict in the story.
