Best Answer

The German dictator, Adolf Hitler.

After Hitler negotiated German control of the Sudetenland of Czechoslovakia, the German army occupied the remainder of Czechoslovakia, from which they invaded Poland from the south on September 1, 1939. Although war was declared by France and Great Britain, only a minor attack by France followed, and wide-scale hostilities did not erupt until Germany invaded France in May 1940, with the intervening period being called the sitzkrieg, or "phony war."
