50 million dead Russians would tell you the Soviet Union. They killed the most Germans, took the most shells, shot down the most planes, and in the end absolutely Hitler's hope for victory. It all hangs on that word 'contribute'. In terms of blood and lives lost - it was the USSR. It's estimated that 20 million people from the various Soviet republics lost their lives in WWII. The USSR tied up huge amounts of German men and material on the Eastern front, helping make the D-Day landings both feasible and successful. It was the Soviets who did most of the actual slog fighting on the ground. In monitary terms, the US. No doubt. The US effectively bankrolled the allies in WWII. They also supplied vast amounts of aid to the USSR, so the Soviets could tie down the Germans, and eventually roll them back to within the borders of Germany itself. The mobilisation of US industry was a huge achievement. Britain played a huge part technologically - radar and sonar for example, or the development of the code-cracking computer at Bletchley Park. Or development of the armour piercing discarding sabot round for tackling German heavy tanks. Or the refinement of the centimetric cavity magnetron (actually a US invention originally), enabling radar sets to become small enough to fit in a plane. The jet engine - a pity we didn't make more of it earlier. Still, it's a big list. So, asking 'who contributed most' is completely pointless unless the question is further defined. At the end of the day we all somehow pulled together, and Hitler was defeated.

There is a now out-of-print book that if found should start this research rolling: "East minus West=Zero" by Werner Heller. The title is the theme, the book contains the facts. It was published in the late '40's or early '50's.

This is a very difficult question to quantify. Without any of these three nations, Hitler would have won WWII. Britain stood up to the Nazis for the first two years of the war and spent over a year on their own. Without this, Hitler would have conquered all of Europe and then turned on the Soviet Union and even Stalin's hordes would have lost. Without the Soviet Union, the German military would not have been bled white. Remember that the Allies never faced a full German corps, at full strength, with appropriate air support. And knowing this, look at how often the Germans managed to delay or stop allied advances. Without the US, the Soviet Union and Britain would not have had the war materials to have successfully fought the Germans. Lend lease allowed both of these countries to concentrate their producton on strictly war materials and machines. The other items, like clothes, food, transports (trucks, jeeps), etc. All of this was provided mainly by the US. Matter of fact towards the end of WWII most Soviet soldiers were marching on boots made in the US or UK, were fed by meat from the US. So who was the most effective? If I had to say it still would have been the US. Because of all the reasons listed above. FDR managed to find ways to support the war even tho the US would not be actively involved until mid 42

it is quite simple with out the USSR the UK would have been dominated and the US would have been screwd the US used British tactics in WW2, the US think they won WW2 but the truth is Germany was all ready dying the USSR destroyed there ground force and the RAF dominated the air, and after saving the US from one day being invaded the UK were told to pay back all the money for resources which is how the Great British empire that was so stong was finally broke
