The Amrit Ceremony is the initiation rite introduced by Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji (founder of Sikhism) in the year of 1699.
All are eligible to take amrit; however, some basic rules do apply. One must be a lacto vegetarian, mustn't cut, trim, shave, or rely on any form of hair removal, must never tell lies and he or she shall fulfill the requirements of completing all daily prayers, etc.

Once a person has taken amrit, a person is supposed to wake up early in the morning usually if not that early atleast at 4 a.m. and take bath and read and contemplete on the prayers as given by the tenth Guru of Sikhism. Also one has to become vegeterian that is not eating any meat, though if situation arises one can then eat meat, for example if there is certain medical condition that require protein. Otherwise a person eat vegeterian food, and put his or her effort towards living a life as instructed by the Sikh Gurus. Furthermore, one has to keep his/her hair and must not cut them at all.
