A genuine asylum-seeker - is a person who is being persecuted in their home country, and is perhaps likely to be killed if they stay there. Wanting to voluntarily re-locate to a foreign country simply because they would have a better life is not the definition of an asylum seeker ! A genuineasylum-seeker would simply re-locate to the nearest country, not travel half-way across the planet in search of free welfare !
Asylum seekers shouldn't stay in the UK because the government has to pay for their housing and their food vouchers that are worth about £35.00, that means they have to raise taxes and its not fair to tax payers, because asylum seekers don't pay taxes. Also because if the government allows them to get a job, they can steal jobs from people living in the country who rightfully deserve the job, and the people living in the UK that arent seeking asylum have less chance of finding another jobno racism intended its just for my hmwrk x(: busieThere is no such thing as a legal asylum seeker in the UK. Asylum can only be sought at the FIRST SAFE COUNTRY YOU ENTER. Once you leave that country, you are no longer considered an asylum seeker and you become an economic migrant. When you become an economic migrant, nobody has any obligation to accommodate you and you can be deported without appeal.
In Australia we lock them up, they stay in Immigration Detention Centres offshore. If they are legit we persecute them, if they are false we send them back to where they came from.
asylum
to discourage people from seeking asylum in Australia
In an attempt to control the overwhelming numbers of people seeking asylum in Australia through dangerous methods, such as the people arriving by boat. In a recent move the Gillard Government has made a deal with the Malaysian Government where they will be sent to Malaysia upon arrival. Gillard condemned the Christmas island process and the deal with Nauru saying that Nauru was not a signatory of the Human Rights convention... though neither is Malaysia. Not all asylum seekers go through this process however. Only those whom do not formally apply for asylum and attempt to 'jump' to the front of the line. Other asylum seekers whom do legally seek refuge are given visas where they are able to stay in Australia. Refer to the Australian Government website for more information.
People looking for a place that they can go to escape the oppression they are under. For example, someone in Cuba who is being persecuted (put in jail, local police are beating him, etc.) for speaking out against the Government might go to the USA to escape the conditions of their homeland. When a person is seeking asylum they are seeking refuge, sanctuary or a place they can be safe and secure.
