In Photoshop go to help and select about Photoshop - you should be able to see the names of all the people that helped to create the program - wait a few seconds and it should scroll and you will see more than a hundred people involved in its creation - very complex project with many corporations and individual's contributions.
Photoshop got its start with a father and his two sons Glenn, John and Thomas knoll, who were some photo dark room enthusiast, who started writing bits of code to help display and edit photos on some of the the first mac computers - they started adding the bits of code together, finally bundling them and finding the first buyer in 1988, Barney Scan who bundled the first program we know as Photoshop with their scanners - they sold 200 copies - the final version of Photoshop v.01 was licensed to adobe in 1990 after 10 months of development.
In 1987, Thomas Knoll, a PhD student at the University of Michigan, began writing a program on his Macintosh Plus to display gray scale images on a monochrome display. This program, called Display, caught the attention of his brother John Knoll, an Industrial Light & Magic employee, who recommended Thomas turn it into a fully-fledged image editing program. Thomas took a six month break from his studies in 1988 to collaborate with his brother on the program, which had been renamed Image Pro.Later that year, Thomas renamed his program Photo shop and worked out a short-term deal with scanner manufacturer Barney scan to distribute copies of the program with a slide scanner; a "total of about 200 copies of Photo-shop were shipped" this way.
