People also blamed strangers, witches, Jews, imbalanced humours (Blood, yellow bile, black bile and phlegm), poisonous fumes from volcanoes and earthquakes and miasma (bad air). None of these things were true, and the plague came from fleas that hovered around black rats, which transferred to humans when the rats died.

∙ 14y agoBlack death was originally caused by fleas on the black rats that went on ships when resources were being transferred, People believed it was the wind, god or even glance of a person with it but many of the people blamed witches. So they hanged many old women then but also still rumours went on.
