Who discovered Colorado?

Francisco Vasquez de Coronado, governor of a province in Mexico, led an expedition northward to search for the legendary "Seven Golden Cities of Cibola". But the "cities" they found were sad little pueblo villages, and there was no gold. Coronado and his men found the Grand Canyon on the Colorado River, but, again, no gold. However, Coronado's expedition gave Spain a claim to the vast lands of the American Southwest.

Spain first visited colorado and claimed it. Later in the 1800s the U.S. bought it in the Louisiana purchase.
