Use who for this sentence.
Slaves may not have known (or just not cared) that the person was a carpetbagger. They just would vote for them because the carpetbagger was a republican (Abe Lincoln was a republican, so slaves kind of saw the whole party as being completely against slavery, which they mostly were). In other words, they were probably happy that they could support an anti-slavery politician, and the carpetbagger was probably happy that he was getting some political power.
In reading about him I don’t think he feared much. He was a risk taker and a bit of a scalawag .
Did you know that Scalawags was a name for Southern Whites who supported reconstruction after the Civil War. As a derogatory term it refers to a rascal or a worthless fellow. So if you want to be constructively critical of someone, although you should not be, a sentence can be short and sweet ' I think you are a scalawag'
Some I love, Some I despise, but not because they're gay.
Well, everyone has their own opinion, but I personally DESPISE the Jonas Brothers. I think that they are show offs.
I don't despise them personally, but some reasons you may are: Foxes eat chickens and other livestock from farms Foxes are usually described as sneaky, shrewd, and cheating (although I don't think so.) Hope this helped!
No, but the political hacks on the Liberal Left would probably try to make you think so.
Well contempt means to despise so despise death I think To me it doesn't mean just despising death. It means completely embracing the fact you are going to die. Which then takes a lot of the fear and power away from death and therefore, ironically, sets you free.
it is a time during the civil war that all the other people took other peoples things and did not think twice about it and didnt care who they hurt in the processe of doiing there crime full acts. Actually, this person is almost right, but he doesn't explain that much. The Carpetbaggers were northerners that came south after the civil war in a period called reconstruction and they bought property at fire-sale prices and sold it at regular price. The Southerners couldn't do anything about it because they had lost the war. The name "scalawag" was created for the carpetbaggers. Actually you are almost right. The term Scalawag was used to descibe southerners that agreed with what the Carpetbaggers did. That is the only problem that I saw in your explaination.
I neither admire, despise, nor pity Captain Ahab. He is a complex and tragic character in literature, driven by an obsessive quest for revenge against Moby Dick. Ahab's determination and inner turmoil make him a compelling figure, sparking reflection and analysis of his motivations and actions.
