A tip or gratuity is an aknowledgement of good service. In a lodging establishment, consider tipping: the person who helps you with bags; the waitstaff in the dining room; the bartender at the bar; the chambermaid who cleans your slobbers and makes your bed; and anyone else rendering a personal service to you. Sometimes the hotel will have a policy against tipping, but it should be clearly stated by management and staff who may refuse to take a tip from you.
