Who does Ponyboy talk to about his feelings?
How do you love somebody if they have a dream of becoming a nun and she only has feelings for you as a friend?
On page 54, Chapter 3, it clearly states Cherry making a request to Ponyboy not to talk to her, or to let her be seen with the greasers by her parents. This deeply embarrasses Ponyboy and personally I'm not surprised by this at all. She's on a whole different level, and Ponyboy would be nuts to believe for one second that they could be compatible.
Ponyboy is different from the other Greasers, he loves literature and enjoys watching movies. Sometimes Ponyboy doesn't think (to the dismay of Darry). When a girl says she can't talk or text because of her feelings it may mean that she is catching feelings for you and she doesn't want to. Or that she doesn't have any feelings for you. It could also mean that she is still dealing with feelings from a previous relationship. It could also mean that she doesn't know how she feels about you and wants some time to think about it.
