Copying music is illegal because the music and lyrics belong to the song-writer ! They spent time writing the lyrics and music - often days, weeks months or years ! The deserve to be paid for their time. When CD's or downloads are paid for - part of that price is paid to the artist and/or songwriter - which sometimes is their only source of income. Copying music without paying - is theft in it's basic form ! Think of it this way - would you do your regular job for nothing ?
