The first atomic bomb dropped in World War II was dropped by the United States, on Hiroshima, Japan. The name of the plane that dropped the first atomic bomb is Enola Gay, and it was piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets.
During WWII, there was a secret project called the Manhattan Project whose goal was to develop an atomic bomb. The only person who knew about the existence of these atomic bombs were President Roosevelt (who hadn't even told VP Harry Truman about them). When Rooselvelt suffered a stroke and died on April 12, 1945, Truman is left to run the war in the Pacific. Truman discovered the atomic bombs and on August 6, 1945, the Enola Gay (name of the plane) dropped the first atomic bomb on the city of Hiroshima in Japan. Three days later, on August 9, 1945, a second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki (also in Japan). Shortly after the bombings, the Japanese emperor, Hiro Hito, surrendered.
The United States under president Truman dropped the first and the second one.
