No one band created the genre.

Overkill was the first band to form in 1980.

Don't mistake this with Metallica who formed in 1981.

Overkill was formed in 1980 and played mostly covers of punk bands but never got a contract with a record company to release anything until 1985. Although they had written songs, their first demo wasn't released until 1983.

The first thrash metal song ever written was "Unlea--------------------------

^^^^ Forget what that guy was saying, Anvil was the first, they basicaly plain and simply invented thrash, formed in 1978 first album in 81, still going strong.

Well actually Venom was formed in 1978 although the first members did not last long, they released welcome to hell in 1981 and black metal 82 who inspired band like slayer megadeth and metalilica who said in interviews and stuff that venon inspired them by the speed

BONUS FACT venom also inspired early death metal and black metal Chuck Shouldiner (RIP) who is called the father of death metal said that venom started death metal not his band death

Queen came out with "Stone Cold Crazy" in 74'. That song is for sure where the origins of Speed/Thrash metal lie. Other bands followed through with the theme.

When Motorhead first came out with "OverKill" that was the birth of thrash metal.

Metallica and Anthrax are considered to be the pioneers of Thrash

actually Venom released their LP Black Metal in 1982, the year before the release of metallica's debut Kill Em' All. Though it is arguable that this is Black Metal, most people consider it thrash.

In the 1980's and Metallica was one of the first bands to invent it and i think they did. They are one of the Big Four of Thrash Metal among Anthrax Megadeth and Slayer.

There is no such thing as zombie metal, because genres are based on musical traits, not lyrical traits. You can be a thrash metal band that sings about zombies, but that does not make you "zombie metal," it makes you thrash metal.

They were a Thrash Metal band (and the only one of the "Big Four" who actually played true Thrash Metal). Nowadays, they play some sort of hybrid mix which tends to wander sometime into nü-"metal" territory.
