Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (commonly called the "Mormon" church) believe that Jesus Christ founded the church. I suppose you could say that he was killed by an angry mob...

The person that you are probably thinking of, however, is Joseph Smith, Jr. Joseph Smith is considered the first modern prophet of the Church, and Church members believe that he organized the Church under the direction of Jesus Christ, who founded it. Joseph Smith was shot and killed by an angry mob while awaiting trail on false charges in Carthage Jail in Illinois.

Why were Mormons killed?

A prophet named Joseph Smith was given revelation about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints otherwise known as Mormons. After he started to teach about the gospel he learned about, many did not agree with it and were mad. They thought Joseph Smith was crazy and sent many mobs to hurt him. Other Mormon families were persecuted and ridiculed during the late 1800's and 1900's. Some reasons why people did not like them were because at first they had practiced polygamy although it is not allowed in their religion anymore. Also, they believed they were the only true church and in many different things people just weren't used to. They had to move to many different places in the U.S. and it was extremely hard for them.

Was there a name of the band of people that killed Joseph smith?

They did not have an official name, as they presumeably had only formed for this single event. The mob is usually called an "Anti-Mormon Mob" or an "Armed Mob", but they were not any official organization, just a group of people who were angry with Joseph Smith or Mormons in general.

What was the political outcome of the Mormon pioneers?

In the early history of the LDS (Mormon as it is nicknamed) the membership was subjected to mob violence and even ordered to be exterminated by Governor Boggs of the State of Missouri. So the church leaders moved to a location in the West that no one else wanted. Politically it likely helped the church survive and grow to a strength that could not be destroyed by mob violence. Just before the Civil War, President Buchanan sent an army to crush the "Mormon rebellion", that due to the distance and scorched earth defense measures deployed by the Mormons delayed the army's long enough for public opinion get it's mission mostly called off. So survival of the church was the political outcome.
