Actually, nobody "gave" it. It took many years of advocacy, beginning in 1848 with the Seneca Falls (NY) convention, when the women's suffrage movement formally began; through having individual states (Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, etc) granting women the right to vote in local and state elections; to finally gaining full voting rights throughout the country when the 19th amendment was finally ratified in August 1920. Many women of all colors and social strata worked hard to achieve the vote for women. Among them were Alice Paul, Carrie Chapman Catt, Susan B. Anthony, Ida B. Wells-Barnett, Belva Lockwood, and Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
