America somewhat supported South Korea during the Korean war but to cover their own backs, not for the sake of the S.Korean people. They saw that Stalin was becoming highly expansionist in N.Korea, setting up a communist led nation, indoctrinating the local population and building a strong army led my Kim Il Sung. America seen this as a threat to their economic welfare as S.East Asia was geographically advantageous for trade, so they had to counteract Stalin's progression in order to contain his expansion in Asia to control his sphere of influence.
