When he chooses, he strikes like a thunder bolt." Beethoven wrote that he was "the master of us all... the greatest composer that ever lived. I would uncover my head and kneel before his tomb". Beethoven also emphasised above all the simplicity and popular appeal of Handel's music when he said..Haydn was inspired to write his two greatest oratorios The Creation and The Seasons after hearing performances of Handel's Israel in Egypt and Messiah in London. His music also inspired pieces from later composers such as Brahms, Grainger and Schoenberg.
