the kringle family invented santa. he was left as a baby on their front step. They would make toys but could not bring them to the next town that is what santa offered to do and he eventually had to find a way to bring the toys inside of the houses because the mayor of the town made everyone lock their doors which is how he used to get in so then he came up with going down the chimney.

Santa Claus was originally Saint Nicholas (c270-343AD), a bishop who became patron saint of children. Known as a bringer of gifts for children, Sinterklaas (from Sinter Niklaas) in Dutch, Kris Kringle in Austria and Germany (thought to be from Christkindl), Santa Claus first hit the press in 1773 when the New York Gazette referred to Saint Nicholas as "Otherwise known as St. A. Claus."

From 1863 to 1886 American cartoonist Thomas Nash drew Santa Claus annually for Harper's Weekly in the form close to the way many think of him today, jolly, kind and bearded. Christmas cards and store Santas began to appear in the 1870s in America, while Father Christmas arrived in English shops a couple of decades later.

So Santa Claus isn't the result of any one inventor, but the result of a long line of change and re-invention over many centuries. Frequently controversial, he remains in the minds of many the image of a kindly old man bringing joy to millions each year: an enduring symbol of goodwill and child-like innocence.
