An American chemist, Dr John Smith Pemberton, invented Coke-Cola in 1886. It was sold as a tonic to help people who had headaches or were sick. In the first year about nine drinks were sold a day. Today there are over 800,000,000 sold every day. The name comes from two of its main ingredients kola nuts and the coca leaf.
