James Schonegge first concieved all terrain bikes in 1969, in Ohio. But could not get the co- operation needed since he was only 12 years old. He moved to Denver and was treated badly there as well. He had 6 prototypes before September of 1979, when Gary Fisher wrote the article for Bicycling magazine, declairing himself the creater of all terrain bicycles. The first mountain prototype with a Chrome-Molybdenum alloy steel frame, was a holeshot version of the Schwinn 26" BMX race-bike the King-Sting. This new bike was paid for in June, and it arrived at Hillside Cyclery, on New Years eve, 1979. The first person to build all-terrain frames in Colorado, was Dan Nibblelink, in 1981. Thanks
