"Friedrich Matthias of IG Farben/BASF developed the recording tape, including the oxide, the binder, and the backing material. Development of magnetic tape recorders in the late 1940s and early 1950s is associated with the Brush Development Company and its licensee, Ampex; the equally important development of magnetic tape media itself was led by Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (now known as 3M)." huma nan

The recorder was developed in the late Middle Ages. No single person is associated with its development. The recorder developed from simple flutes carved from wood, and more or less developed its current form after the 13th century. It wasn't until the 17th century that the recorder began to be properly developed as an elegant, pure, clear solo instrument, particularly through the works of Johann Sebastian Bach.

The 'Phonautograph' was the first machine or device that was able to record sound waves passing through the air. It was invented by Edouard-Loon Scott de Martinville in 1857. Years later, Thomas Alva Edison perfected the sound recording technology in 1878, with his Phonograph, although it was difficult to produce in mass. It was until Emile Berliner patented the Gramophone in 1887 that this kind of machines were widely available.
